What does it cover?

PADI Rescue Diver Course Online content is broken down into 5 easy-to-learn sections after an introduction. The course covers a wide range of topics including, The Psychology of Rescue, Recognising Diver Stress, Accident Management, Assisting Responsive and Unresponsive Divers at the Surface and Underwater, Equipment Problems, Oxygen Delivery Systems, Missing Diver Procedures, Responding to Diver Emergencies and In-water Rescue Breathing.

Who can benefit from completing the course?

The course is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to prevent, and if necessary, manage dive emergencies. The course broadens a diver's awareness and improves their skills and confidence. Most certified PADI Rescue Divers look back on their rescue training as one of the most challenging - sometimes demanding - and therefore most rewarding courses that they've taken. Although the subject is serious, the training is deigned to be fun and highly educational.


  • Emergency First Response Certificate or a recognised Level 2 First Aid Equivalent.
  • A current Dive Medical issued within the last two years of course starting date.
  • Print Out of eLearning Certificate - available online after your eLearning completion.
  • 2 x Passport Photos required for your PADI certification.
  • Hold Certification beyond entry-level with proof of Underwater Navigation training, such as PADI Adventure Diver with the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive completed.
  • A notebook and pen.
  • Your own Mask, Snorkel, Fins and Booties.
  • Your own SMB (Surface Marker Buoy) and Finger Reel.
  • Bathers and Towel, Sunscreen, Hat and a change of Warm Clothes.
  • It is also a good idea to bring a packed Lunch and Water for the day.
  • Minimum age for participation in the course is 15 years of age.
  • Students under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian accompany them on the course
  • BUT most of all be prepared for a challenge and a lot of FUN!

How does it work?

After enrolling, PADI's eLearning system presents you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics and reading. Short quizzes let you check your understanding of the presented information before moving on. This lets you go through the program efficiently and at your own pace. At the end of each section there are exams which verify your mastery of the entire topic and are automatically scored and saved.

What else is required to complete the course?

After completing the online portion of the PADI Rescue Diver Course you'll visit Geelong Dive Center to complete your training. You'll take a short eLearning Quick Review to confirm your understanding of safety related material from the course. Then, you'll complete the inwater training portion of the course. Your instructor will have you complete ten rescue exercises in open water, either with or without initial skills practice in confined water. Finally, you participate in two Rescue Diver Scenarios in open water. The Rescue Diver Course is completed over one weekend.

$899 (Scuba gear, Wetsuit & Tanks are NOT included but can be hired for $150 for the weekend)

Equipment Requirements:

Students are required to supply their own Mask, Snorkel, Fins and Booties as these items are not supplied as part of your course fees. We call these comfort items and it is in your best interests to be comfortable whilst learning to scuba dive. We also recommend that you purchase your own regulator silicone mouthpiece for safe hygiene reasons. Rescue Diver students are required to have their own SMB (Surface Marker Buoy) and Reel. We strongly recommend that you buy this equipment from Geelong Dive Centre to ensure that you are purchasing quality equipment. In summary:

This course represents one of the most informative and hands on courses available. It's conducted over one weekend were students learn how to apply the important information learned online into the diving environment. On the Saturday students learn in detail how to prevent and handle numerous problems that can occur from minor to major situations. An emphasis is placed on individual problem solving as well as leadership and group involvement. On the Sunday students will put their new found skills to the test with simulated real-life scenarios in an openwater environment. These simulated scenarios are created to enforce the skills learned and designed to give students the opportunity to experience how they may react in a real situation. This course is highly regarded by those who have completed it and continually referred to as one of the most informative and satisfying courses that they have done.

A $150 deposit secures your place on the course and we will then email you with your eLearning Access Pass. The full course balance is payable on the first day of your dive course. If you have already completed your PADI eLearning then this fee is removed from the course fee. Candidates must complete ALL the eLearning theory online before attending the first day of the course. If you have booked onto your course and choose to change your original date of commencement there will be a $150 Transfer Fee applicable each time a course date is changed. If you require additional days to complete the course for whatever reason, $200 for each additional day required will be charged plus any additional boat fees if required.

N.B. Weather: If it is necessary for us to alter the course schedule due to inclement weather conditions there are no additional fees.
