PADI Open Water

Enrol in the PADI eLearning Open Water Diver course to explore the underwater world and complete your classroom theory online in the comfort of your own home. With just a few simple steps you can open the door to a lifetime’s passion. This is the basic entry-level program and is all you need to dive without direct professional supervision. The training develops your dive skills and requires a full day in the pool as well as four fun dives out in the actual diving environment. The PADI Open Water Course is designed to prepare you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres without supervision. During the course you will have fun whilst easily and progressively developing the knowledge and the skills that you will need to enjoy the natural beauty and splendour of the underwater world in comfort and safety.

The PADI Open Water course gives you a license to dive the world! At Geelong Dive Centre we realise that all our students are unique, with different needs and different amounts of available spare time. At Geelong Dive Centre we recognise this and it's why we offer two options for our clients when their choosing how to learn to dive with us. Our learn to dive options are as follows:

GOLD PADI OPEN WATER

  • PADI eLearning online

  • Course duration is three days: Sat/Sun and the following Saturday

Equipment Requirements:

Students are required to supply their own Mask, Snorkel, Fins and Booties as these items are not supplied as part of your course fees. We call these comfort items and it is in your best interests to be comfortable whilst learning to scuba dive. We also recommend that you purchase your own regulator silicone mouthpiece for safe hygiene reasons. We strongly recommend that you buy this equipment from Geelong Dive Centre to ensure that you are purchasing quality equipment. We carry a complete and extensive range of popular equipment brands to suit all budgets, plus you'll get the added benefit of being expertly and correctly fitted. Prerequisites:

For your safety, we require that all students obtain a Diving Medical Certificate within 90 days prior to starting your dive course. The Dive Medical can be easily completed by your regular GP Doctor. If you don't have a regular GP you can also follow the link to find a full list of SPUMS Accredited Dive Doctors closest to you:

SPUMS DIVE DOCTORS

When you go to see the Doctor, make sure that you remember to take a copy of the PADI Scuba Dive Medical Certificate form with you, as your Doctor may not have spare copies of the form available. This form will be completed by the Doctor. For your convenience you can find a copy of the PADI Dive Medical below:

PADI SCUBA DIVE MEDICAL CERTIFICATE

The Dive Medical will confirm that you're fit to dive and begin your scuba diving lessons. It will also help you to identify if you have any pre-existing medical or health conditions that could exclude you from scuba diving.

All Students must be at ease in the ocean and comfortable swimming in the water. All students will be required to complete a 200 metre non-stop swim, as well as to complete a 10 minute tread water, before beginning any confined water pool training.

Minimum age for participation in our Scuba programs is 15 years of age. Students under the age of 18 years are required to have a parent or legal guardian accompany them on the course.

When you come to class Students will need to bring the following:

  • A current Dive Medical Certificate completed within 90 days.
  • Print Out of eLearning Certificate - available online after your eLearning completion.
  • 2 x Passport Photos required for your PADI certification.
  • A notebook and pen.
  • Your own Mask, Snorkel, Fins and Booties.
  • Bathers and Towel, Sunscreen, Hat and a change of Warm Clothes.
  • It is also a good idea to bring a packed Lunch and Water for the day.
  • BUT most of all prepare yourself for a lot of FUN!

Please note: Students attending class without the above Prerequisites will NOT be able to begin their training on that day. You will be required to re-schedule to another course at a later date. In addition, you will be charged a fee of $150 to cover course Cancellation and Re-scheduling costs.

Payments:

A $150 deposit secures your place on the course and we will then email you with your eLearning Access Pass. The full course balance is payable on the first day of your dive course. If you have already completed your PADI eLearning then this fee is removed from the course fee. Candidates must complete ALL the eLearning theory online before attending the first day of the course. If you have booked onto your course and choose to change your original date of commencement there will be a $150 Transfer Fee applicable each time a course date is changed. If you require additional days to complete the course for whatever reason, $200 for each additional day required will be charged plus any additional boat fees if required.

N.B. Weather: If it is necessary for us to alter the course schedule due to inclement weather conditions there are no additional fees.
